![]() The tripod was just a few feet from the chair, allowing me to get a close-up of the child's face. My Christmas tree needed to stay where it is, so I placed a chair where I wanted my kids to stand a good 10 feet away from the tree. The farther away your subject from the background, the blurrier it will be.Īny kind of camera can take advantage of this tip: even your point and shoot can create bokeh if you force enough space in there!įor these pictures, I wanted a portrait of each of my kids with a blurry Christmas light background. You know you will be focusing on your subject, so you want to purposely put some space between your subject and the background that you want to blur out. The second way to create the right situation for bokeh is to actually manipulate your depth of field physically. Create Physical Space Between Subject and Background On a prime you can do f/1.8 or f/2, but if you only have the lens that camera with your camera, this will be f/3.5, in an unzoomed position. So whatever lens you have available, set the aperture to be as low a number as possible (which translated to the widest opening for light). This means that anything you are not focusing on will be blurry. An aperture like f/1.8 lets in a ton of light and creates a very shallow depth of field in the photo. The first is to use a lens with a very wide aperture, like my favorite Nikon 35mm f/1.8 or Canon version here. ![]() There are two ways you can create the right situation for bokeh in your Christmas pictures. ![]() When you add tiny twinkling lights to that background, bokeh becomes magical! There Are Two Ways to Create Bokeh! 1. The circular pattern of that background is called bokeh, and it happens all the time in good portrait photography because it helps you focus on subject instead of a distracting background. It means that your picture has a very shallow depth of field, so only a small area of your photo is actually in focus, and everything that is not on that plane of focus is blurry. The reason those Christmas lights look so big and beautifully blurry is a photography term called bokeh (pronounced bo-kuh if you're wondering). Many of these tips can be used with a compact camera even if you don't have a DSLR. I'm going to show you how take Christmas pictures of your children with a blurry background. ![]() I'm sure you've seen artistic pictures of beautiful, big, blurry Christmas tree lights. ![]()

Its been mentioned here that it does not work correctly. ![]() All the other synths that I know of that work as an audio effect all provide a separate audio effect version, and I doubt they would add an option like this to support one plugin (though if any DAW developer would do something like that it's them) There is a chance REAPER developers would add an option for for VSTi, AUi, VST3i to block audio, but it isn't super likely. Currently Surge can't receive midi in this configuration, so it's only partially functional. The windows "rename _fx" trick works in latch mode. You can process audio through them but the unaffected audio will still pass in parallel. In REAPER if you put an instrument on an audio track the audio will just pass through it, and any audio from its outputs are mixed.īecause of this Surge VSTi, VST3i and AUi do not work properly as an effect in REAPER. In REAPER all tracks can always host streams of multitrack audio and midi and don't have any kind of dedicated "instrument slots" or "sidechain menu". There isn't really a proper way for anyone to support a "Synth Effect" in Renoise unless the developers update it (which seems unlikely). Surge can be used in latch mode on Windows with the "rename _fx" trick. There is also isn't really a way to send midi to an audio effect. Renoise only allows instruments in instrument slots, but has no way to send audio to an instrument (without using a vst wrapper plugin such as Metaplugin). These are the best most fully featured ways to use Surge (synth) as an effect currently. These DAWS only allow instruments in instrument slots, and as such Surge can not be used as an "insert" effect, but with creative routing you can do anything you can imagine. (on both Windows and Mac OS in the case of Ableton) Midi and audio input are working as expected. Surge works as an audio effect when using these DAWS integrated methods for receiving a sidechain from another track. Logic X and Ableton 10 (Windows and Mac): ![]() You can load it as an instrument and send it audio as a sidechain, or load it inline on an audio track and send it midi from another track. Surge works fully as an effect or synth in Ardour. These work great! Unfortunately they don't include the midi controlled modulation capabilities and ability to send audio through the filter block. I noticed the nightly builds for mac now include a new Surge FX vst3 and AU plugin, which includes all the effects from the effects section. Currently Surge will not receive midi when renamed too Surge_fx.dll. This works for some DAWs, but only in Windows. I spent a couple hours reading about it on here, and trying different things in different DAWs, so I thought it might be a good idea to compile them along with my personal findings. Using a synth as an effect is something that I personally find really interesting. I've seen a number of issues open on this, or conversations on other issues make reference to this. ![]() ![]() Lay approximately 14 inch apart with a mini- mum side - lap of 12 inches. Beneath that iconic look, however, is a more complex story of aesthetic transformation, from what Heather Hendershot, a media historian at MIT, describes as a “flapper-secretary-adventurer” in the early 1930s to a “middle-class homemaker” by the end of the decade. Every time I look at the game, I know on a visceral level that it should not exist. But I’ve clearly gotten off-track, let’s talk about some games. If you could think of it, Capcom was more than willing to slap Ryu, Ken, Guile, Chun-Li and M. Even discounting obvious stuff like the two movies and the two animated series, you had weird things like a pinball machine, whack-a-mole, Tiger Electronics handhelds, various toy lines (including a take on Rock ’Em Sock ’Em Robots), a truly bizarre comic book from Malibu Comics, several manga in Japan, valentines and even a simulator ride. Of course, the games I will be discussing in this retrospective don’t even scratch the surface of the weird licensed material Capcom stuck their fingers into during Street Fighter II’s heyday. ![]() Games that Capcom outright acknowledged were farmed out to other developers with vastly different results, both mechanically and in their overall reception. ![]() Of course, you’d think I’d have gotten my fill with the first Street Fighter retrospective article – I covered Final Fight, Street Fighter 2010 and even Avenger, an arcade game that predated the original Street Fighter – but there were a couple of games that have still managed to pop into my mind. However, even when I was outlining this project from the get-go, I knew that I wanted to explore some of the more obscure titles in the Street Fighter franchise. With every game in the recent Street Fighter 30 th Anniversary Collection covered in this series of retrospectives, the obvious route for continuing it would be to go straight into the modern releases. ![]() ![]() The 35-year-old struck out McCormick and Martín Maldonado at the bottom of the border before Altuve singled and Alex Bregman sent a hard shot past Chapman’s headed that Marcus Semien fielded near second base for the groundout.Īfter letting the Rangers climb within a run without getting an out, reliever Bryan Abreu retired three consecutive All-Stars to get out of the eighth.
